A journey through the centuries in the heart of the city to immerse yourself in the architectural and artistic wonder of the Unesco site of Piazza Grande, with the Cathedral and the Ghirlandina.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With guided tours, extraordinary openings of monuments, workshops for children and the show \"Le voci di Dante\" (Dante's voices) with Toni Servillo, \"Modena patrimonio mondiale in festa\" (Modena's World Heritage in Celebration) returns from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October. This annual event dedicated to the Unesco site is now in its seventh edition with a programme that looks beyond the city boundaries and is also proposed through the tourism portal visitmodena.it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

'Eternal Return. Infinite past, infinite future' is the theme of the 2024 edition, chosen to evoke the idea of a past, that of Roman Mutina, which relives in Romanesque monuments and through the centuries to us, but also to remind us how much history and the voices of the people who changed it, live on and persist in our present and our future.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of the main appointments of the event will be the performance \"Le Voci di Dante\" (The Voices of Dante), a journey by Toni Servillo in the sign of Dante and the Divine Comedy, in an ideal dialogue with Modena Cathedral: Dante's words, in fact, have resounded countless times in sacred buildings over the centuries. The seats inside the Cathedral for the two replicas on Friday 4 and\u00a0Saturday<\/span>\u00a05 October, at 9 p.m., were sold out in a few hours, but the show will also be accessible from outside the cathedral via wireless headphones: those who were unable to find tickets for inside, from Wednesday 11\u00a0September\u00a0<\/span>will be able to purchase one of 100 tickets (50 for Friday evening and 50 for\u00a0Saturday<\/span><\/span>) to listen to the show from the churchyard with headphones.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Opportunities to discover new places and to see familiar ones with new eyes, workshops in which children can learn the value of things and history. This is the new edition of \"Modena World Heritage in Celebration\", scheduled from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October, designed to involve the community in conveying the exceptional universal value of the Unesco site of Modena with Piazza Grande, the Duomo and the Ghirlandina, a world heritage site since 1997.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The rich programme of itineraries will allow adults and children to get to know and appreciate the monumental complex and explore the theme of the relationship with antiquity, the buried Roman city and what was reused of it in the construction of the monuments recognised by Unesco as World Heritage Sites, and with the key figure of St Geminianus.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The festival opens on Friday 4 October with the first two replicas of the themed guided tours \"San Geminiano e le origini di una cattedrale\" (at 3 and 5 p.m.) and \"L'eco dell'antico\" (at 4 and 6 p.m.), aimed at the adult public by appointment. The itinerary, centred on the figure of Modena's patron saint, guides visitors to discover the Cathedral and the Duomo Museums, recounting the central role played by the figure of the saint not only in the construction of the Cathedral we see today, but in the urban evolution of the entire city. Through the works that tell us about Saint Geminianus present in the world heritage site and in the renovated Duomo Museums, we will retrace the history of the bishop who lived in late antique Mutina and, at the same time, the fundamental passages that led the city to transform itself into medieval Modena, in which the cult of the saint would become the catalysing nucleus of the new urban centre, gravitating around the new Romanesque cathedral by Lanfranco and Wiligelmo.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"The Echo of Antiquity\" is an itinerary that takes place in the historical centre and touches on two places of particular cultural interest in the city: the itinerary starts from the Palazzo dei Musei and arrives at the World Heritage Site, to learn how the appearance of Piazza Grande has changed over the centuries, from the early Middle Ages, before the construction of the Cathedral, to the Renaissance, when it became the place to display the vestiges of Roman Mutina, in many cases reused according to a renewed relationship with antiquity. Visitors will thus be able to recognise the connections between some of the most important artefacts from the Roman era preserved in the city's museums and the city's most important monuments, between Roman Mutina and the new architectural and figurative language of the two genius creators of the Romanesque monumental complex of the cathedral and Ghirlandina. In order to give continuity to the valorisation of the Site, this experience will be made available as a permanent cultural offer and creative product in the media-arts sphere. From December, in fact, the itinerary will be available as a podcast, thanks also to the evocative narratives created with the collaboration of the Holden School that will give voice to some important personalities linked to the history of the Site.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October, in addition to the thematic visits, which will continue to take place throughout the day, there will be initiatives aimed at children. \"One thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine lives again\" is an experience that aims to provide the new generations with an opportunity to reflect on the theme of sustainability, in accordance with the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda and the recommendations of Unesco, which is increasingly asking World Heritage sites to commit themselves, also through awareness-raising actions, against climate change. The itinerary will seek to explain how the Duomo and the Ghirlandina were created and built, starting from the year 1099, dealing with the medieval phenomenon of the reuse of ancient materials, and then linking this practice with that of the creative reuse of objects, a fundamental part of the circular economy. Together with the creative activity, where imagination will lead the way in the art of giving new life to things, thanks to the renewed collaboration with Piacere Modena, the route also includes an educational moment against food waste and some pleasant surprises.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The event is planned and promoted by the Museo Civico di Modena - Coordination of the World Heritage Site and the City Promotion and Tourism Service of the Municipality of Modena in collaboration with Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT \/Teatro Nazionale. The 2024 edition is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Museums of Modena Cathedral, the Metropolitan Chapter of Modena and the Archdiocese of Modena and Nonantola, as well as the Focal Point Creative Cities and Urban History - Department of Culture of Modena. Also supporting the project 'Enhancement and promotion of the Unesco heritage and Media Arts for the enhancement of the city's tourist attractiveness' is the Ministry of Tourism within the framework of the Fund in favour of Municipalities with a cultural, historical, artistic and landscape vocation.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
