THE ECHO OF THE ANCIENT
Guided thematic itinerary between Palazzo di Musei and the Modena World Heritage Site From 4 to 6 October on the occasion of Modena World Heritage in celebration
The programme of Modena World Heritage in Celebration 2024 is full of opportunities to get to know the monumental complex and delve into the theme of the relationship with the ancient, buried Roman city and what was reused of it in the construction of the monuments recognised by Unesco as World Heritage Sites.
"The Echo of Antiquity" is an itinerary that takes place in the historical centre and touches on two places of particular cultural interest in the city: the itinerary starts from the Palazzo dei Musei and arrives at the World Heritage Site, to learn how the appearance of Piazza Grande has changed over the centuries, from the early Middle Ages, before the construction of the Cathedral, to the Renaissance, when it became the place to display the vestiges of Roman Mutina, in many cases reused according to a renewed relationship with antiquity. Visitors will thus be able to recognise the connections between some of the most important artefacts from Roman times preserved in the city's museums and the city's most important monuments, between Roman Mutina and the new architectural and figurative language of the two genius creators of the Romanesque monumental complex of the cathedral and Ghirlandina.
